SAQA Regional VA and NC

First Exhibition: “Imagination: 1 x 4”

This exhibit presents a selection of new contemporary art quilts created by artist members of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) from Maryland, Washington, DC, West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. In creating the individual pieces, each participating fiber artist responded to an invitation to use their imagination as the door through which to escape the physical constraints of reality, with the only requirement being to create an art quilt in a format measuring 1 foot wide by 4 feet high. The display of unique and original art quilts has been selected by juror Maggie Vanderweit, an internationally recognized quilter and SAQA board member. The exhibition features both traditional and experimental materials and textile techniques which include hand dying, surface design, piecing, machine and hand quilting, sewing and embroidery.

Second Exhibition: Simple Lines

Living in or near a center of power, such as Washington DC, can affect a person’s view of the world.  Every day seems to be filled with activity on multiple levels, weaving a complex structure of society that can be a challenge to perceive. Our members have expressed how they see Washington DC and/or the surrounding area in a simplified form. Physical, historic, social, or natural platforms were considered for inspiration.
